I flipped a coin to see which movie out of the new releases this week I was going to view. As fate had it I completely skipped Flatliners which you would think I missed a bullet by the box office numbers. Now IT had found a way back to the number one spot and I can see why. Now American Made beat out Kingsman: The Golden Circle by only 16K and IT reclaimed number 1 by 310k so that is telling me this was an extremely weak – week (see what I did there?)
So onto American Made …. I am not a big fan of Tom Cruise so I go into this movie with a small chip on my shoulder. Set in the late 70s and through the 80s Tom plays an Airline pilot who was “recruited” to assist the CIA. Personally the movie started off so stereotypical and Tom’s forced southern drawl as Barry Seal annoyed me at every step as he played what some critics described as a likable rogue.
As far as I am concerned this movie does have some entertainment value as it goes along especially if you are a recent history buff or nostalgic about years gone by or like to follow old school political actions. I thought this movie was middle of the road in entertainment value and I can only give it 3 out of 5 on my GoingFullNerd movie scale. I really just couldn’t get properly attached to this character or really care by the way the story was told about his well-being or ultimate end. I really felt like meh about time once I reached the end of the movie.
